To Burn More Fat Fast, You'll Need a Simple Change in Mindset

Editor's note: To help kick off 2010, we'd like to help you rid that unwanted body fat -- you know, what you've been carrying around even before snarfing down all those holiday cookies, libations, candy, etc.

The good news? You can burn off that fat fast -- and set the stage for a lifetime of good health. How? By simply changing your mindset. Following, guest contributor Rob Poulos tells you how.

By Rob Poulos
Fat Loss & Fitness Expert
Creator, "Fat Burning Furnace"

Most people that I talk to about health and fitness, talk about "getting in shape." But I don't think they realize that their words are actually counterproductive to their aspirations of burning fat.

You hear a lot of people lamenting about being out of shape and saying, "I need to get in shape and burn fat. Or, "I want to get in shape and burn fat." What you don't hear them saying is, "I want to get in shape, burn fat, and stay in shape." These folks may want to stay in shape, but their mindset is focused on getting in shape.

This makes you more susceptible to the fad diets and latest exercise gimmicks on the market. You're so focused on getting in shape that you'll try almost anything -- regardless of how silly or difficult-to-follow it might seem -- because you're entirely focused on the short-term goal.

A simple change in the "quick fix" mindset to one of long-term success, will steer you down the correct path. You'll be less enticed by the late-night TV hype, and be more focused on doing the right things most of the time.

Wouldn't you agree that lifelong health and fitness is what's most important?

Of course, creating an environment in your body that allows you to burn fat fast is essential to this goal. A person who is in shape in their 50's and 60's is a lot more impressive to me than someone who is lean and fit in their 20's and 30's. That's because the dedication to maintaining the proper exercise plan and a sensible nutrition strategy for the rest of your life is rare to find. It's a rare mindset.

If you really want to transform your physique and your health for good, you must make it a lifestyle -- a habit. And that starts in your mind; that's what people who are lean for life do. In fact, if I think about all of the people I personally know -- who are in great shape, and have been for a while -- I start to understand that they have their minds on staying in shape.

These forward-thinking, health-conscious people think about it day and night -- not obsessively, but with each thing they do. They subconsciously think, "Is this going to positively or negatively impact my llong-term health and fitness?" "Am I doing everything I reasonably can to burn fat and live a healthy lifestyle?"

The good news is that research shows you can develop simple habits, like those involved in eating and exercising properly, in less than one month -- sometimes, even sooner. And with the type of exercise and diet tips I recommend to my "Fat Burning Furnace" students, you don't need to give up your life's pursuits, so that you are working out every day. Nor do you need to follow a wacky diet that you can't reasonably make a lifestyle out of.

After a few months of practicing these methods, students' bodies start telling them that they actually want to keep exercising and eating right -- that they just won't feel right without doing so. Why? Because our bodies naturally want to be healthy and lean.

So, I urge you to forgo the "get in shape" mindset. Instead, embrace the idea of staying in shape and creating that fat-burning furnace that is so essential to lifelong health and fitness.

Imagine yourself in the body of your dreams -- today, tomorrow, and five, 10, 20 or more years from now. What will you be doing then, in your lean, strong and healthy body? Chances are, you won't be trying to "get in shape." Instead, you'll be burning fat 24/7, and enjoying life as you should -- full of vitality and passion.

CDC Kicks Off National Travelers’ Health Public Awareness Campaign; Effort Aims to Educate Travelers About H1N1

Every holiday season, millions of Americans travel through the nation’s airports, seaports, and train stations to spend time with loved ones. Special holiday get-togethers -- and traveling itself -- bring people close together, but also provide an ideal way for illness to spread. To help travelers avoid the flu this holiday season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention today launched its largest ever public awareness campaign about staying healthy while traveling.

"The holidays are one of the busiest travel times of the year," said Anne Schuchat, M.D., director of CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases. "People are in close contact -- whether they’re on a plane, train, ship or just visiting with loved ones. This campaign provides practical advice to help travelers prepare for their trips and stay healthy during their holiday travel."

CDC is urging people to take the following steps when planning their travel, and to stay informed about what to do if they get sick while they’re gone, including:

* Traveling only when they are feeling well

* Getting vaccinated for flu [both seasonal flu and 2009 H1N1 if they are in a priority group]

* Washing hands often

* Covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve

"We know that flu -- and, specifically, H1N1 this year -- is a big concern for people, but flu shouldn’t ruin the holidays," Dr. Schuchat said. "By practicing a little prevention, people can enjoy their holidays and stay well at the same time."

CDC developed the campaign in response to the emergence in April of the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic. Since then, flu has spread throughout the country and around the world. In the United States, it has accounted for millions of cases and more than 4,000 deaths since April.

CDC launched the campaign at a joint event with Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano today in Washington, D.C. The campaign will run through the holiday season and use a variety of media, including informational posters at major airports, ports of entry and border crossings; national radio and print advertising; and social media and online outreach.

CDC will also partner with local health departments, travel professionals, health care professionals, and colleges and universities to further educate the public. Campaign themes include "Prevention Can Be Travel-Sized" and "Stop, Wash and Go."

Highest Rates of Obesity, Diabetes in the South, Appalachia, and Some Tribal Lands; Estimates of Obesity Now Available for All U.S. Counties

Wide sections of the Southeast, Appalachia, and some tribal lands in the West and Northern Plains have the nation′s highest rates of obesity and diabetes, according to estimates released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In many counties in those regions, rates of diagnosed diabetes exceed 10 percent, and obesity prevalence is more than 30 percent.

The estimates, in this week′s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, are the first to provide county-level snapshots of obesity across the United States. They also update diabetes county-level estimates released in 2008.

Eighty-one percent of counties in the Appalachian region, which includes Kentucky, Tennessee, and West Virginia, have high rates of diabetes and obesity. So do three-quarters of counties in the southern region, which includes Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina.

"Diabetes is costly in human and economic terms, and it′s urgent that we take action to prevent and control this serious disease," said Dr. Ann Albright, director of CDC′s Division of Diabetes Translation [pictured]. "The study shows strong regional patterns of diabetes, and can help focus prevention efforts where they are most needed."

The estimates come from the agency′s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System [BRFSS], which uses self-reported data from state-based adult telephone surveys, and 2007 Census information. The information may help public health workers, health care providers, community organizations, and policymakers focus on high-risk regions to prevent type 2 diabetes and its complications, as well as other chronic diseases linked to obesity -- e.g., heart disease, stroke, and some cancers.

The proportion of U.S. adults who are obese was 26.1 percent in 2008, according to BRFSS data. CDC estimates that nearly 8 percent of the population, or about 24 million people, have diabetes. Of these, 5.7 million are undiagnosed.

"The small-area estimates for obesity will be an important tool to help communities better understand and battle this serious public health problem," said Dr. William H. Dietz, director of CDC's Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity. "Communities are in the best position to prevent and reduce obesity among their citizens through innovative programs."

The medical costs of obesity reached an estimated $147 billion in 2008, and the medical costs of diabetes were $116 billion. People with diagnosed diabetes have medical costs that are 2.3 times higher than those without the disease.

Obesity is one of several factors linked to type 2 diabetes. Where people live, how much money they earn, their culture and their family history also play a role. An unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and socioeconomic factors contribute to both obesity and type 2 diabetes, as well as to complications of diabetes. Some population groups also are at higher risk, including a number of racial and ethnic minorities.

CDC and its partners are working on a variety of initiatives to prevent type 2 diabetes and to reduce obesity. CDC has recommended 24 community strategies to prevent obesity -- from providing greater access to healthy foods, to redesigning communities to encourage more physical activity.

The agency is also in a new partnership with state, federal, and nonprofit agencies targeting health disparities in Mississippi, which has the nation′s highest obesity rate and one of the highest rates of diabetes. CDC′s national diabetes prevention and control program provides resources and technical assistance to state health departments, national organizations, and communities.

Dr. Sanjay Gupta's 'Cheating Death' Special Debuts Oct. 17; CDC Reports Continued Rise in Obesity

This weekend, neurosurgeon and CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, M.D., explores the world of physicians whose work promises to stretch survival time -- and, possibly even, to reverse the process of dying. They, and their patients, are cheating death.

The program, titled "Another Day: Cheating Death," follows just days after the release of Dr. Gupta's latest book, "Cheating Death: The Doctors and Medical Miracles That Are Saving Lives Against All Odds," which is already a bestseller on Amazon. The show debuts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, and again at 11 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 18, "Cheating Death" airs at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. [NOTE: All times Eastern.]

CDC: Obesity Among U.S. Adults Continues to Rise
One way to "cheat death" is to control obesity, which is related to about 20 major diseases; e.g., heart disease, diabetes, cancer.

Recently, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] reported that the prevalence of obesity is 25 percent or higher in 32 U.S. states. In fact, the proportion of U.S. adults who are obese increased to 26.1 percent in 2008, compared to 25.6 percent in 2007. The data come from CDC’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System [BRFSS], a state-based phone survey that collects health information from adults aged 18 and over.

In six states -- Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia -- adult obesity prevalence was 30 percent or more. Thirty-two states, including those six, had obesity prevalence of 25 percent or more. Only one state, Colorado, had a prevalence of obesity less than 20 percent. But no state showed a significant decrease in obesity prevalence from 2007 to 2008.

More than 400,000 U.S. adults were surveyed in the 2008 BRFSS, which is the world’s largest telephone health survey. To assess obesity prevalence, survey respondents are asked to provide their height and weight, which is used to calculate their body mass index [BMI]. A person is considered obese if they have a BMI of 30 or above.

"Obesity is a major risk factor for many chronic diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes," said Dr. William Dietz, director, CDC’s Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity. "As obesity increases among all age groups, we are seeing chronic diseases in much younger adults, compared to a few decades ago. For example, we now see young adults who suffer from heart disease risk factors and other conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, that were unheard of in the past."

USDA and HHS Unveil New Food Safety Consumer Website; FoodSafety.gov Features Latest Food Safety, Recall Information Across Federal Government

"There are certain things only a government can do. And one of those things is ensuring that the foods we eat are safe and do not cause us harm." -- President Barack Obama

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack [pictured] and Health and Human Services [HHS] Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, co-chairs of the Obama Administration's Food Safety Working Group, unveiled a new consumer website today at http://www.foodsafety.gov/. The site is designed to help consumers and families get all the latest information on food safety and food recalls in one convenient place.

The new site features information from all the agencies across the federal government that deal with critical food and food safety information -- including preventive tips about how to handle food safely; alerts on life-saving food recalls; and the latest news from the key agencies.

FoodSafety.gov provides consumers with one easy place to sign up to receive e-mail and RSS alerts on recalled or potentially unsafe food, as well as get information from the top scientific experts across the government on food safety. Later phases of the site to be launched will include recall feeds for texting and mobile phones.

The site will also feature a FoodSafety.gov widget that the public and the media are encouraged to download and promote on their websites and social networking sites. The widget will instantly update viewers with the latest food safety recalls, and will be a valuable public health and safety tool.

Leaders from HHS and USDA praised the new site, and said it would be a valuable tool in their efforts to keep our food supply safe and consumers healthy:

"Protecting the health and well-being of the American people is a fundamental responsibility of the federal government," said Secretary Vilsack. "Our new and innovative approach to connecting consumers to food safety information in an easy and timely manner is a critical improvement in this effort."

"The highest mission of any government is keeping its citizens safe," Secretary Sebelius noted. "In this Administration, we see public health as an essential part of that mission. This new website is an essential way we can help keep people safe from unhealthy food and food handling practices, and up-to-date on critical food recalls. Consumers no longer will have to search around in different places trying to figure out which agency manages which food product. All the information that they will need will be in one easy place at http://www.foodsafety.gov/."

"This site focuses on prevention by highlighting the steps both businesses and consumers can take to avoid illness," said Food and Drug Administration [FDA] Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg. "It also will be a clearinghouse for information on the latest FDA rules and guidance."

"Health departments and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] rely on information from many places, including consumers, when it comes to tracking food-borne illnesses across the country and the world," said CDC Director Dr. Tom Frieden. "With this new website, consumers will quickly know who to contact if they believe they became ill from eating a certain food. Those reports of illness can help us identify potential outbreaks sooner and strengthen our efforts to protect Americans from unsafe food and food-borne illness."

"Protecting the American people from food-borne illness is a critical mission of the U.S. Department of Agriculture," added Jerry Mande, Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety at USDA. "Our work is designed to prevent outbreaks of food-borne illness from occurring, and to react quickly and decisively to contamination in the food supply. The new FoodSafety.gov site will provide families with a one-stop online shop for all the latest information they need to reduce the danger of food-borne illnesses."

The 2008 BRFSS obesity data indicate that none of the 50 states, nor the District of Columbia, has achieved the Healthy People 2010 goal of reducing obesity prevalence to 15 percent or less.

"The latest BRFSS survey data show that the obesity problem in this country is getting worse," said Liping Pan, CDC epidemiologist and lead author of the 2008 BRFSS obesity map analysis. "If this trend continues, we will likely see increases in health care costs for obesity-related diseases."

Here's the TRUTH About Your Drinking Water -- and What You Can Instantly Do About It!

Today, I want to scare you ... a lot, in fact! Really, I do ... Why? So that you will take action and take care of yourself, using this little "secret" I'm going to give you -- one that, although small, will help you in a really BIG, BIG way!

By now, everyone's heard the saying, "If you are going to Mexico on vacation, have fun -- but be sure NOT to drink the water!"

Why do we say that? Is Mexico a horrible place? No. It's actually nice ... In fact, I've vacationed there!

The main reason people say this is, because there may be "parasites"or "toxins" in the water that we're not ready for, or resistant against. And if we drink it, we may get really, really sick -- maybe even DIE!

But, now, here's the scary part: In the United States, the water may be just as "sickening" ... and maybe even worse!

I can already hear a few "patriots" screaming, "Let's hang her!" [Let's not hang me just yet, OK?]

Read this excerpt directly from the EPA's website: "Drinking water, including bottled water, may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants."

Naturally, some would argue that this is only reasonable, right? But here's more ...

"Coliform bacteria are common in the environment, and are generally not harmful. However, the presence of these bacteria in drinking water is usually a result of a problem with the treatment system or the pipes which distribute water, and indicates that the water may be contaminated with germs that can cause disease.

"Fecal Coliform and E. coli are bacteria whose presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with human or animal wastes. Microbes in these wastes can cause short-term effects, such as diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms.

"Turbidity has no health effects. However, turbidity can interfere with disinfection and provide a medium for microbial growth. Turbidity may indicate the presence of disease-causing organisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can cause symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches.

"Cryptosporidium is a parasite that enters lakes and rivers through sewage and animal waste. It causes cryptosporidiosis, a mild gastrointestinal disease. However, the disease can be severe or fatal for people with severely weakened immune systems. EPA and CDC have prepared advice for those with severely compromised immune systems who are concerned about Cryptosporidium.

"Giardia lamblia is a parasite that enters lakes and rivers through sewage and animal waste. It causes gastrointestinal illness [e.g. diarrhea, vomiting, cramps]."

YUMMY!!! [Makes me wanna puke just reading some of this!]

And how about that part about the parasite "Cryptosporidium" being potentially *FATAL*? [How nice!]

If you want to read the rest from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's [EPA] website, just go here now:

==> http://www.epa.gov/ogwdw/hfacts.html

Now, you're probably thinking, "That's just great! Every time I turn around, someone, or something, is out to get me!" Right? While this may be somewhat true, it does NOT mean that you have to allow yourself to become a "victim." [How weak would you be then?]

My advice to you is that you arm yourself in the same way someone would if they knew they were about to be "attacked" by a DANGEROUS and DEADLY enemy! I mean, you wouldn't just sit back and let someone kill you, would you? ... Or lay a hand on your family, right?

So why allow "little critters" to kill you just because you either can't see them, or because you keep lying to yourself, trying to convince yourself they aren't "really" there to begin with?

In her recently released e-book -- "Top Secret Fat Loss Secret" -- Dr. Suzanne Gudakunst [pictured] gives you not just one, but several, "INSTANT" sources of "Parasitic Cleansers" that flush out all this kind of goop mentioned above! The best part: Her secret is 100% NATURAL!

There's NO question whether her sources "really" work or not, as that's precisely what they were designed to do -- i.e., KICK "PARASITIC A$$"!

Or, you can ignore this post and risk getting irreversibly sick ... but, having just recovered from a bad case of Giardiasis myself, I wouldn't recommend it, though. [I swear, it's disgustingly and painfully true! The culprit: Poor sanitary conditions at a local *upscale* restaurant, no less. Nasty, nasty stuff, believe me ...]

You can get Dr. Suzanne's secret -- plus much, much more -- at:

==> http://tinyurl.com/2yx268

It's *FULLY-LOADED* with this and so many more benefits, that you'll truly thank yourself for making such a wise investment in bottom-line good health -- for yourself, your family and your pets!!
