April 30: Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Studios Mark First National 'No Phone Zone Day'

Today, Oprah Winfrey and Harpo Studios are taking a stand against distracted driving, launching a new public service announcement campaign, and joining forces with some of the country's pre-eminent transportation safety organizations to declare Friday, April 30, 2010, the first national "No Phone Zone Day."

A large-scale effort to honor victims of distracted driving, "No Phone Zone Day" will also educate and activate Americans to end the deadly driving habits that kill nearly 6,000 Americans a year, according to the
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The announcement was initally made April 6 on The Oprah Winfrey Show.

"A call or text isn't worth taking a life," said Winfrey. "We must not allow more mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, sisters and brothers to die before we take action against distracted driving. Let's put a stop to it now, by joining together on April 30 for national 'No Phone Zone Day,' and by making our cars a 'No Phone Zone.'"

"I've made it my mission at the DOT to end distracted driving," said U.S. Secretary of Transportation
Ray LaHood. "We know that if we can get people to put away cell phones and other electronic devices when they are behind the wheel, we can save thousands of lives and prevent hundreds of thousands of injuries every year. That's why I'm proud to support and participate in Oprah's 'No Phone Zone Day.'"

Today, The Oprah Winfrey Show will present a special live episode devoted to ending distracted driving. In conjunction with the episode, Harpo Studios is mobilizing communities to take action at "No Phone Zone Day" viewing rallies to be held in Atlanta, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Oprah show partner stations -- WSB-TV Channel 2 in Atlanta, WCVB-TV Channel 5 in Boston, WXYZ Channel 7 in Detroit, KABC ABC7 in Los Angeles, and WJLA ABC7 in Washington, D.C. -- will support the rallies in their respective markets. The planned rallies will bring together victims' families, elected officials, advocacy organizations, parents, youth, and law enforcement to discuss best practices and steps to limit distracted driving in their own communities. In addition, a new "No Phone Zone" public service announcement campaign will be showcased on today's Oprah show.

A working coalition of transportation safety organizations will come together as part of "No Phone Zone Day" activities and viewing rallies across the country -- including LaHood and the
U.S. Department of Transportation; the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA]; the Governors Highway Safety Association [GHSA]; the National Organizations for Youth Safety [NOYS]; FocusDriven; SADD [Students Against Destructive Decisions]; RADD, the Entertainment Industry's Voice for Road Safety; and more.

In addition, "No Phone Zone" corporate partners Sprint, General Motors/Chevrolet and Liberty Mutual will lend their support -- both for national "No Phone Zone Day" and in the coming months to spread the "No Phone Zone" message.

As a national call to action, all viewers and town hall participants will be asked to take the "No Phone Zone" pledge. By pledging, drivers agree to make their car a "No Phone Zone" and refrain from using their phone while driving, eliminating distractions from incoming calls, texts or e-mails.

To date, more than 160,000 people have signed
Oprah's "No Phone Zone" pledge at Oprah.com. Many celebrities have already joined the cause, including Oscar® winners Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges and Mo'Nique; comedian Jerry Seinfeld; actress and icon Raquel Welch; Olympic superstar Shaun White; country music's Lady Antebellum; entertainer and entrepreneur Tyler Perry; the cast of TV's Glee; plus many more.

A 2008 NHTSA study indicated that, at any given moment during the daylight hours, more than 800,000 vehicles are being driven by someone using a hand-held cell phone. According to a 2005 study for the
Insurance Institute for Highway Safety [IIHS], drivers are four times less likely to get into accidents serious enough to cause injury when they turn off their cell phones while behind the wheel.

The Sedona Method: #1 Wealth-Building Holiday Gift Idea for 2007

NOTE: This is one of 10 holiday gift ideas for enriching your own life, and/or that of others, in myriad ways. Goal: To redefine what it truly means to prosper -- now, in 2008, and well into the future.

How often have you wondered how amazing your life would be "if only..."? "If only I could lose weight..." "If only I had more money..." "If only I could be healthier..." "If only I had a better career or job..." "If only I didn't have to work as much..." "If only I had more focused time and energy to [fill in the blank], then I'd feel fulfilled..." "If only I could meet the right person, then I'd be happy..." "If only I could take control of my life..."

During the past 20 years or so, I've done my share of soul-searching, self-discovery, and individual and group therapy to help address various issues. Being an avid advocate for social, racial, ethnic and cultural diversity, as well as a lifelong student of ecology, I'm pleased to report that no one, single means of self-development has held the key to my personal growth and well-being. Instead, all of the diverse books, articles, courses, tapes, therapy sessions, meditations, visualizations, etc., have integratedly served me -- yes, some more than others -- and I believe that I've invested my time, money and energy well.

"The Secret" Reveals Lessons Regarding the Law of Attraction
In late 2006, "The Secret," a
DVD and book by Rhonda Byrne, took the entire self-help world by storm. Replete with insights from dozens of prominent experts [AKA teachers] -- from the realms of psychology, metaphysics, religion/spirituality, medicine, business, personal finance, etc. -- "The Secret" was loaded with ideas and suggestions for living one's very best life, and became an instant bestseller.

Just a few months later, Oprah Winfrey hosted Byrne and a handful of "The Secret"'s teachers not once, but twice, on her show. And, now, in December 2007 -- a full year later -- "The Secret" is still on the prestigious New York Times bestseller list.

In a nutshell, lessons in "The Secret" all relate to the ancient Law of Attraction; i.e., you attract what you focus on. For instance, if you constantly worry about being broke, you'll stay broke -- and, very likely, magnetize more bills. If you keep thinking about how tired, lonely, sick and/or depressed you are, then you'll continue to feel fatigued, isolated, dis-eased and mopey. If you don’t genuinely feel and express gratitude, you’ll likely block more good things from coming your way.

Simple, huh? Yes -- that is, unless you're undoing decades of negative personal and social conditioning, the fallout from tragic life experiences, and, perhaps, a few unhealthy habits [AKA addictions]. Then, you've got a little more work to do.

As a writer, publisher and PR/branding/marketing professional, I'm familiar with the work-in-progress concept. Beyond that, I consider my Unitarian Universalist/Humanist self to be a work-in-progress -- i.e., till the day I die, when this lifelong party's over.

Thus, when I felt the widespread, positive vibe surrounding "The Secret," I just had to read it. And study it, I did ... from cover to cover ... twice! FYI: I'm very protective of my time, so it's a big deal for me to devote such time and energy to any endeavor, much less twice.

The Sedona Method: It's All About the Power of Letting Go
Along the way, I "met" some terrific teachers, each of whom offered a certain, nuanced life lesson. Among the most compelling teachers: a gent named Hale Dwoskin [pictured above], president of Sedona Training Associates.

Dwoskin, himself a student of the late Lester Levenson, has fine-tuned Levenson's teachings on the applied science of "releasing." He's authored the best-selling book, "The Sedona Method: Your Key to Lasting Happiness, Success, Peace and Emotional Well-Being," and developed a multimedia course that's helped millions of people throughout the world untether themselves from yesterday's obstacles and move on to better things.

Sound mysterious? It's not. Just as practicing the Law of Attraction yields powerful results, applying the Sedona Method's releasing technique aids students in simply letting go ... of bad habits/addictions ... poverty-inducing thoughts of scarcity and lack ... emotional trauma ... stress ... lethargy ... fears ... unwanted weight ... feelings of unworthiness ... and unrewarding relationships, work and activities that no longer serve your best interests while creating the abundance, peace, love, joy and fulfillment you deserve.

On Fourth of July 2007 [Independence Day!], I started studying the Sedona Method. Since then, I've unloaded clients and projects that held no place in my new, long-term career and business goals. More over, I've gained an unprecedented, new sense of clarity, acceptance, calmness, confidence, self-control and sheer imperturbability regarding various issues and situations that I've inadvertently allowed -- yes, allowed -- to plague me for years, even decades.

Bonus: Without even trying to shed a few extra pounds, all of this emotional and psychological releasing has also yielded a lighter, fitter and more energetic me -- i.e., one who now frequently opts for fresher and more nutritious whole foods, rather than caffeine and processed sweets, carbs and fats.

"Knowing how to release is not a luxury," says Dwoskin. "It is a basic survival skill for the millennium." It's true. As stressors mount -- personally, locally, nationally and globally -- it's critical to be able to control one's emotions, and to focus on what's important and relevant.

The Sedona Method guides students to doing just that. Simply put, I cannot praise it highly enough -- neither as a stand-alone technique, nor as a complement to other means of achieving sound mental health; e.g., traditional and alternative therapies, 12-step recovery work.

Endorsements Abound for the Sedona Method Course
If you want a doable, cost-effective system for letting go of "stuff" from the past, and moving toward a healthier, brighter and more abundant future, order a copy of Dwoskin's best-selling book from
Amazon today. I wholeheartedly believe that it'll be one of the best gifts ever -- for yourself and/or a loved one.

If you'd like to check out Dwoskin's comprehensive multimedia course, go to the Sedona Training Associates
Web site. There, you'll find celebrity and author testimonials from the likes of Jack Canfield, Barbara De Angelis Ph.D., John Gray Ph.D., Mark Victor Hansen, Mariel Hemingway, Gay Hendricks Ph.D., Robert Kriegel Ph.D., Cheryl Richardson and Brian Tracy, plus compelling endorsements from several prestigious educational and medical institutions -- including Harvard Medical School.

You'll also be able to request the free DVD, CD and MP3 gifts that provide an overview/sneak preview of the course, and sign up for the free "Sedona Method Success and Well-Being Newsletter" and free "Insiders Guide to the Sedona Method."

Check it out today, and prosper this holiday season ... and well into your future!

Oprah's Feb. 16 "The Reaction to The Secret" Show Illuminates and Inspires Her Audience

Yesterday's "The Reaction to The Secret" segment was a most apt sequel to last week's broadcast on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Once again, Oprah deserves a big kudos and thank-you for illuminating and inspiring the masses with purely positive notions about being one's very best self -- and, thus, attracting far-reaching good that radiates out into the Universe.

I shan't elaborate on the finer points that yesterday's teachers/cast members from "The Secret" --
James Arthur Ray and Michael Beckwith [see photo] -- made. Y'all can go to Oprah's Web site for a slide show, of sorts, that recaps the entire show: http://www2.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200702/tows_past_20070216.jhtml. Suffice to say, given audience members' success stories -- gleaned during just the past week, mind you -- it's evident that Oprah's generosity in bringing The Secret out into the open has already yielded countless life changes.

What I will do here is share one of the show's most salient points that truly resonated with me. In the context of addressing an audience member's concern about living The Secret while being surrounded by, well, jerks [i.e., those negative folks determined to piddle on other people's Cheerios, tear them down, block their growth, etc.], Michael Beckwith noted, "Mediocrity always attacks excellence."

Whoa! Talk about your "AHA!" moment... Just slightly reminiscent of the old aphorism, "It's hard to fly with eagles when you're hangin' out with a bunch of turkeys," Beckwith's point was totally spot on. For anyone who's been in recovery, or simply chosen to travel a life path that diverges from what's expected of him or her, his keen insight spoke volumes.

I encourage -- no, challenge -- you to do four things:

1] If you missed Oprah's first segment [Feb. 8, 2007] about The Secret, check it out: http://www2.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200702/tows_past_20070208.jhtml

2] If you missed yesterday's follow-up show about The Secret, go to: http://www2.oprah.com/tows/pastshows/200702/tows_past_20070216.jhtml

3] If you haven't yet seen nor read "The Secret," please buy the DVD, book and/or audiobook, and then apply The Secret's incredibly powerful, life-changing notions regarding the Law of Attraction.

4] Be your most excellent self. It'll be good for you, the Universe and, yes, even a few, uh, turkeys.

Today: Oprah Hosts Follow-Up Segment on "The Secret"

Today, just one week after featuring executive producer Rhonda Byrne and four teachers/cast members from the hit film, best-selling book, DVD and audiobook "The Secret," Oprah Winfrey is hosting two of those guests for a follow-up segment, "The Reaction to The Secret."

Evidently, when the initial segment about The Secret aired on Feb. 8, 2007, millions of viewers tuned in to The Oprah Winfrey Show to learn the mystery of The Secret and its purported power to making more money, losing weight, falling in love, having a fulfilling career, etc. Since then, the show's message boards have been abuzz with folks wanting to know more.

ProsperNOW readers and/or fans of "The Secret" know that The Secret is defined as the Law of Attraction, which states that like attracts like. Basically, the concept says that energy -- either positive or negative -- you put into the world is exactly what comes back to you. [Think karmic boomerang.] Thus, you create the circumstances of your life via the choices you make every day.

To help answer viewers' burning questions about The Secret, Oprah is hosting two of last week's guests -- James Arthur Ray, founder and CEO of James Ray International, and the Rev. Dr. Michael Bernard Beckwith, founder of the Agape International Spiritual Center. Today's show will also showcase some astounding, life-changing examples of how people have applied The Secret -- during just the past week!

Apply "The Secret" to Attract Anything You Desire -- Including a New Car!

Yesterday's broadcast of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" was nothing less than phenomenal. It was so cool to watch Oprah interact with Rhonda Byrne, executive producer of "The Secret," as well as four of the hit film's 24 teachers/cast members -- i.e., Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith, James Canfield, Lisa Nichols and James Arthur Ray.

The deeply spiritual Oprah totally embraced "The Secret"'s teachings. She candidly noted that, while watching the DVD and reading the book, she teared up and realized, "I've been living The Secret all my life."

Indeed, many "tuned-in" people have been living The Secret for centuries. For example, this reporter has lived vestiges of it, off and on, for decades -- especially after a certain beloved uncle imparted a critical golf-swing/life lesson: "Remember what you're doing right, and forget what you're doing wrong." Happily -- and most gratefully -- after having recently studied "The Secret," its life-changing lessons have been infused in her daily life [e.g., conversations, outlook, actions].

So, what is The Secret? Simply put, it's the Law of Attraction: What you put out to the Universe comes back to you. What you focus on is what you'll attract. Focus on negative stuff -- e.g., being broke, jobless, lonely, overweight -- and you'll continue to manifest those very states. Focus on positive stuff -- e.g., abundance, fulfilling and well-paid work, rewarding relationships, radiating good health -- and you'll create an entirely different, and totally prosperous, reality for yourself.

As Rev. Dr. Michael Beckwith noted, The Secret is also very much about gratitude. While practicing the steps to attract what you desire -- i.e., 1] Ask, 2] Believe, 3] Receive -- it's critical to be grateful for everything. Everything? you ask. Yep -- even the, uh, "life lessons" that can be so very difficult to handle; e.g., bankruptcy, divorce, broken leg, death of a loved one. Simply express thanks to the sources of all things -- good and not-so-good -- learn from them, and then refocus your time and energy on manifesting what you do want in your life.

Attract Whatever You Desire

Like his fellow cast members, Dr. Vitale is also a staunch believer in The Secret notion that -- for better and/or worse -- our current circumstances reflect what we've attracted thus far, and that each of us has the power to consciously attract good stuff; e.g., luxury cars, loving relationships, great health and fitness. In fact, he's developed a program, Attract A New Car, to help virtually anyone attract their dream vehicle[s] and/or anything else they desire.
